IP logging will be turned off eventually, though I don't have a set date for that. Rest assured, we wouldn't switch to permanent IP logging without informing the meme.
Alright, well, I'll just say as one nonnie, I don't appreciate the a lack of transparency or communal decision-making in mod decisions/rules because of behavior that happened literally over a year ago, now. It's a bit excessive. Especially counting criticism as "troll behavior", which was never something I witnessed. I feel like it stifles any reasonable discussion that could occur about what we feel, as a community, is necessary.
If you have a question about the decision process behind any one screening, you are welcome to ask us why we screened it. We are also happy to explain or clarify any rules. There are practical reasons not to post an explanation every time we screen something, but you are welcome to ask us if you don't understand why something was screened.
As far as "counting criticism as 'troll behavior'" goes, we don't allow criticism specifically of the modding and specifically on the main meme because it has been used as a trolling tactic. A troll or trolls would object to being screened by trying to drum up censorship wank nearly every time we screened them. If you haven't ever seen it happen, or if that hasn't happened in a year, it might be because we don't allow that behavior anymore. That isn't because we object to criticism (you can bring up issues here). It's because we don't want this meme to serve as a playground for opportunistic people who have no interest in anything but abusing this community and its honest participants, and we have a general policy to always shut down such people and their activities.
As to your last point, there is never going to be complete consensus from an anon community. We started this community with a set of rules designed to facilitate discussion and avoid abuse. We have adjusted and expanded those rules as we felt necessary and in response to changing conditions on meme. Again, if you have a question about a rule or a screened comment, we are more than happy to clarify a rule or tell you why something was screened. We never screen a comment for no reason, and we never turn on IP logging for no reason, and we will explain our reasoning here if asked.
If you simply don't like some of our rules or find that they are getting in the way of a conversation you want to have, maybe that conversation is better suited for a different community. This place is not, will never be, and was never intended to be the only discussion space in fandom.
