Mods, can you please clarify why comments are being frozen? Are we seriously not allowed to ever mention Kane here? No one was saying anything that violated any of the rules that I can see.

Of course you're allowed to mention Patrick Kane. He is not a banned subject, and there have been other threads involving him that have not been frozen or screened. However, the thread devolved into name calling, and, parenting up, I suspected that there may have been people trying to start wank. Rule #1 is that mods can freeze and screen threads at their discretion. I don't think meme will miss out on all that much in having to quit this argument for a bit.

I get why you froze the subthreads involving name calling, but it seemed like there was also some civil discussion/disagreement going on. It seems kind of shitty that a couple of people being dicks shuts the entire conversation down.

Unfortunately, when I parented up, I felt that some people were entering the conversation trying to create wank. We occasionally exchange notes with the kinkmeme mods, so we know that they have a Patrick Kane troll, and we suspect that they occasionally raise their heads here. There was enough in the thread that I made the judgment call to freeze the thread and cool deke's jets, so to speak.

Obviously we don't want to freeze entire threads the moment someone acts like a jerk -- jerks would quickly take advantage of any such policy, and it would impede discussion on a discussion platform -- but in this case I felt that the thread warranted freezing instead of, for example, screening individual comments + turning IP logging back on, which is something else we'll do when we have a wanky thread. It's a judgment call, not a cemented policy that allows namecalling jerks to shut down all future civil discourse on meme.

Okay, thank you for explaining, I appreciate it. I hope that this topic can someday be discussed without people trying to create wank, because I thought some of what was being said was interesting.
